This year at UME, upperclassmen are already showing symptoms of the dreaded disease: senioritis.

Every waking moment is spent pulling an all-nighter to study for a big test, balancing the demands of both work and school, or stressing over the college acceptance letters that will soon be coming through the mail. Suddenly, the lives of these 17 and 18 year olds consist of coffee runs, English papers, and an impressive lack of sleep.

But wait; isn't senior year supposed to be about having fun and hanging with friends before entering a new chapter of life? The answer is yes, absolutely. Of course, school and keeping the grades up is important, but so is making this final year of high school unforgettable in the most amazing of ways.

College freshman Anna Marshall states, "If I could change one thing about my senior year, it would be my priorities. Yes, I left high school the top of my class, but looking back I realize how little time I spent with my family and loved ones. I wish I had appreciated all of the people in my life that I left behind when I went to college."

Seniors all over the U.S. are feeling the pre- graduation jitters and are more than ready to be done with high school. They easily forget, however, that high school doesn't have to be made up of mounds of homework and assignments. They don't realize until it's too late that the time they wasted could have been spent on much more important things, such as making memories that will last a lifetime and figuring out who they really are.

As Rotimi Adeoye, a 2014 graduate, told the Huffington Post, "As your senior year starts, engage in a mission to find yourself. Whether it's the creative arts or sports, do something that makes you feel like yourself. Invest your energy and emotion into an activity where you don't feel the need to prove a point to someone."

He explained that many people leave high school barely knowing themselves. 10/5/16
