School Spirit

The UME Prep D.R.U.M. line was founded in the fall of 2015 as the start of our school’s band program for 5th - 12th graders. The head directors, Mrs. Lorentzen and Ms. Kristen, started the program with a small donation to purchase buckets and a large trash can that functioned as the “bass” drum. Mrs. Lorentzen actually went to Babe’s Chicken looking for cans for the students to play on. Since their installation, both directors have emphasized the D.R.U.M. line’s core values of Discipline, Respect, Unity and Music. They went to every flag football game in 2015 supporting and bringing UME spirit.

Because of the dedicated members in the 2015-2016 school year, the directors pooled together all of their resources to be able to provide snares, glockenspiels and even a new set of marching cymbals. Ms. Kristen said, “Even as we make due with our mix-match of instruments, the D.R.U.M. line still puts every effort into supporting our school and our teams as our football team expands into the new world of tackle football.”

The D.R.U.M.line very excited about the turnout for the North Texas Giving Day on September 22, 2016. Thanks to the generosity of UME Prep and our D.R.U.M. line family, UME hopes to be able to move towards its goal of a fully functioning D.R.U.M. line. The D.R.U.M. line will be adding new instruments such as basses, quads, and marching snares to meet that goal.  This will complete the D.R.U.M. line and make them look amazing and make them a stronger D.R.U.M. line in the near future. The new instruments will help them look more mature than beating on cans and buckets.
