DISILLUSIONING DEBATES

Students weigh in on presidential election

by JanTellsItAll

People of the United States are either going to vote for one of the candidates or neither. The debate took place in September of 2016.

This debate created new arguments about the presidential election, such as “Why isn’t Donald Trump answering any of the questions fully?” or “Why didn’t Hillary tell her fans that

she was sick?” Questions like that were not answered. To many people, this was the debate of all debates. This was important to many Americans around the nation. But other people could care less about the debate.

According to some of the kids in the senior class, they didn’t want to watch the debate because they knew it would be terrible and pointless. But not everyone thinks that the debate was that terrible. According to UME scholar JJB, it was quite interesting. “The two candidates bicker like they are siblings,” she said. “They need to stop targeting each other and focus on the real goals of satisfying the American citizens.” She also compared America to a salad bowl regarding the touchy subject of immigration. “Trump needs to rethink the definition of America,” she said. “America is a mix of people not just one race -- just like a salad bowl. A salad bowl contains carrots, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, etc. You get the point.”

Other people that watched the debate  believe this whole election is a joke. One senior feels that everyone is changing their political views. For example, Democrats are voting Republican and the opposite way around. He also believes that at the end of this presidential election relationships will have to be broken or mended. 10/14/16
