Many see this opportunity as chance to gain experience or a great thing to list on a college resume. This statement could not be more true. Many job positions such as publishing for a newspaper require that potential employees serve as an intern before they can apply for an actual paid job. The staff of UME understood how an opportunity like that could benefit the students and have selected a few to go out and begin to make their mark on the world.

For example, a recent college graduate who has a wonderful grade point average and excellent letters of recommendation but no experience may struggle to find employment. Many professional businesses such as the McTigue Financial Group in Chicago require employees to have at least one internship in the field they choose to work.

Another reason that being an intern would benefit a college graduate is interns make connections with people who can defend the fact that they have worked and learned, which tells potential employers that they don’t have to be trained from the very beginning, which gives the intern an edge.10/14/16
