Texas Giving Day

by Amour-Brook

UME Prep recently raised $12,695 for the North Texas Giving Day on September 22nd. The school will be using the money to do many things such as buying snare drums for the DRUM line and meeting classroom needs.

North Texas Giving Day is an event where families can donate to their child’s school’s fundraiser as well as participate in fun activities. For example, the DRUM line is a group of talented kids with a wonderful teacher. Getting the snare drums for the DRUM line will help improve their performance. Also, teachers will be getting classroom supplies like paper, pencil sharpeners, glue, colored pencils, calculators, and science kits.

The funds will also support field trips. Students love field trips. Getting to go to places to learn and have fun make the students excited about learning. Sometimes even going on a field trip to a fun place after a hard test or exam will help the student relax and have a great time. UME Principal Mrs. Smith explained, “The field trips that the UME scholars could possibly take are to the George Bush Library, Perot Museum, Dallas Symphony, UTA Planetarium, and Casa Manana.”

Because the fund raiser met and exceeded goals, scholars will be getting a special treat in an upcoming assembly. Teachers and other staff members will be getting a pie in their face. Not only that, Mrs. Smith will be kissing a pig and Mrs. Gayoso will be decorated like a Christmas tree!

Some teachers were caught off guard when the results of the fundraiser came in. Mr. Stallard didn’t think his students would ever raise enough money that he’d have to face the dreaded pie tin. He was quite surprised UME Prep raised beyond $9,000.

Coach Davidson is both excited and nervous about getting a pie in his face. “I look forward to taste the pie but I am not looking forward to be getting a pie in my face,” he said. The North Texas Giving Day fundraiser has been a fun fundraiser with an amazing special treat for both the scholars and staff members. We’re excited for next year’s event. 10/5/16
