Every state in America has homecoming games every year. According to Michael Cramton, the NCAA credits the University of Missouri with the first homecoming event. In 1911, Mizzou's Athletic Director Chester Brewer invited alumni to "come home" for the annual game against the University of Kansas.

Homecoming in the fall has become a big deal. It consists of football homecoming games, dances and pep rallies. But not all states have homecoming mums. They’ve been a tradition for years now in the some southern states, and are definitely bigger in Texas!

According to The Mum Shop, the idea of a boy giving his homecoming date a chrysanthemum corsage as a mum on homecoming days, was born in Texas.
