Last week Tuesday was one of America’s most controversial Presidential Elections in history. This election was very bumpy the first few weeks in; however, in time it smoothed out and Trump ultimately won the 2016 Presidential Election. Clinton was, by a hair, winning in the early hours, but soon Trump’s votes went through the ceiling, passing the Clinton campaign. Years from now, many will ask, where were you when Donald Trump became the United States’ 46th president?

Early Wednesday morning, Barack Obama commented on Donald Trump winning. Obama invited Trump to come to D.C.’s most prized possession, the White House, to discuss the transition between the presidents in January. Obama is okay with Trump being our new president, even though he was a supporter of Clinton. Obama is most likely ready to break away from politics.

People all over the world have a mixed response to this outcome. “I’m very surprised. I expected Hillary to win,” said UME senior Treasure Bammel. “Although I’m not mad, either person had a chance to win, and I believe people are making too big of deal. The president doesn’t have all of the power. We do still have checks and balances.”

Another UME senior, Grace J., had two points regarding Trump winning the 2016 Presidential Election. Grace first stated that she was “surprised,” and she “believed” America was better than this. Her advice to the U.S. is to simply to “keep loving each other and don’t hate anyone for their belief or for the way they look.”
