As kids, we fantasized about different superheroes such as Batman, Spiderman, and even the Powerpuff girls. We would dress like them and pretend to be them at home. Heroes aren’t just for kids. We all have heroes in our lives. It may be a famous athlete, a U.S. soldier, a historical figure, or it may even be our own mom. We all have a different reason for calling someone a hero. It could be because they stand for something that you passionately believe in. Or they are simply a person that we dream to become one day.

Joseph Campbell once said, “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself.” That something could range from a dedication to a sport to a passion for serving and fighting for our country.

The greatness achieved by our heroes didn’t happen overnight. It all came from a journey of small steps. The stories of how these people rose to greatness reminds us that it’s not impossible for us to do the same. So when we’re down and feel like we’ll never reach our goals, remember a hero who had a similar struggle. And remember that it is possible. 11/14/16
